Positive attitude in teaching:
Let me start off by stating the obvious: to pursue a career in teaching, you have to love and be sincerely passionate about it.
You have to be curious by nature, and you have to be a positive thinker, or, at least striving to become one.
I love teaching, and I also love learning from my students.
We all know that the positivity is contagious, and it’s been proven that learning is faster if lessons are fun and free of pressure and judgment.
Here are some thoughts along these lines:
- You can choose to be positive as a teacher: do your research, get creative, and tailor lessons that your students will enjoy engage in.
- Provoke creative and positive thinking in your students: ask your students questions, challenge them, ask THEIR opinion over creative decisions.
- Make creative assignments a key part of their lessons. Theory, discipline, regular practice are tantamount to learning, but creativity is also a very important part of any learning process.
- Remember to reward your students. We all love when people around us notice our effort, hard work and commitment. Please let your students know, as often as you can, that you appreciate their commitment to music and encourage them with positive examples.
- Ask your students and/or parents for their feedback on your lessons. I think it is very important to create an environment and relationship where students will feel free and happy to express their expectations from their lessons/communication with the teacher. It helps me to be a better teacher for my students and help them to achieve their goals in music.⠀
If you have positive energy, you’ll always attract positive outcomes.
